LinkedIn is the “go to” social networking platform for business professionals. There are over 100 million users on LinkedIn with research showing the average salary of LinkedIn members being roughly $100,000 per year.

You will find virtually all types of professionals on LinkedIn, including but not limited to, corporate CEOs, large and small business owners, sales executives, upper level managers, and a variety of other professionals. Consequently, LinkedIn is the place to be if you want to connect with these types of individuals.

Five major reasons to use LinkedIn to connect …..

1.	LinkedIn provides a verifiable network of qualified candidates

People of the caliber that are found in LinkedIn do business with people they know or with people to whom they are referred. Many companies use LinkedIn to verify an individual’s qualifications and network, as well as recruit highly qualified candidates for their vacancies. LinkedIn users don’t care about the quantity of relationships you have — they care more about the quality of those relationships. Chances are they can find someone who knows you. That is how business gets done.

2.	LinkedIn connects marketers with financially qualified people

One of the major issues we have as marketers is that many times we market to people with no money, and wonder why we’re not making any money! It is unlikely that you will have that problem on LinkedIn. As mentioned earlier, the average income on LinkedIn is $100,000. There are millionaires on LinkedIn. Why not spend your time building relationships with leads that are at a minimum financially qualified?

3.	LinkedIn connects you with producers

LinkedIn members have a production mindset. Most of the individuals on LinkedIn are not just ordinary employees, they have experience producing results. Corporate CEOs need to produce profits, writers need to produce books, and sales executives need to produce sales. Aren’t these the types of people you want in your business? The only training you should have to do with this type of person is orienting them to your opportunity atmosphere.

4.	LinkedIn showcases your qualifications

On your LinkedIn Profile, you can share about yourself. You share where you went to school, your job history, and your accomplishments. Using your profile, you can also share about your products and services. When someone searches for help in your field of expertise, more than likely they are going to be a paying customer. The recommendations for your various positions on LinkedIn also boost your credibility in the eyes of viewers. The unique part about LinkedIn is that you can also attach a full resume which gives the full scope of your background and qualifications.

5.	LinkedIn establishes you as a “Leader”

When you create a LinkedIn Group, you are automatically seen as a leader. People who join your group are looking to connect with others like them and they are looking to be connected with you. Use a group platform to establish yourself as a leader, and feed your group with information relevant to the group. Share your URL with them. This will generate traffic to your blog, and your group members will learn more about you.

There are numerous other benefits for using LinkedIn as a social networking platform. Add any comments and suggestions you have about how LinkedIn has helped you in your marketing and/or hiring efforts. Additionally, share this post with your friends and connections on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and other media.

To Your success,

November is National Diabetes Month. Diabetes is a disease that is running rampant in America today. My interest in this disease lies in the fact that I have lost many close family members and friends to this disease, several have lost limbs, and my husband is currently grappling with this it — even though it’s under control.

In light of this, I thought it appropriate to share the article below from the U.S. Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

America is facing an epidemic of diabetes, a serious disease that damages bodies and shortens lives. In the next four decades, the number of U.S. adults with diabetes is estimated to double or triple, according to CDC scientists. That means anywhere from 20 to 33 percent of adults could have the disease. About 1 in 9 adults have diabetes now.

If you already have diabetes, managing the disease can lower your risk of complications such as kidney failure, heart disease and stroke, blindness, and amputations of legs and feet. Here are some important steps to take to control diabetes:

Talk to your health care provider about how to manage your blood glucose (A1c), blood pressure, and cholesterol.

Stop smoking and do not use any other tobacco products.

Get a flu vaccine. For those with diabetes, type 1 and type 2, it is important to ask for the “shot” version. Talk to your health care provider about a pneumonia (pneumococcal) shot. People with diabetes are more likely to die from pneumonia or influenza than people who do not have diabetes. CDC recommends that everybody aged 6 months and older get a flu vaccine, including family members of people with diabetes.

Reach or stay at a healthy weight.

Make sure you’re physically active. Plan for 2 hours and 30 minutes each week of moderate physical activity, such as walking quickly or gardening, or 1 hour and 15 minutes each week of vigorous physical activity, such as jogging or jumping rope. Add muscle strengthening activities on 2 or more days each week. Physical activity can help you control your weight, blood glucose, and blood pressure, as well as raise your “good” cholesterol and lower your “bad” cholesterol.

Know Your Score.

Obesity – a Major Risk Factor

Being overweight or obese raises your risk of developing type 2 diabetes. To see whether you are at a healthy weight, check your body mass index (BMI) at this CDC calculator. People with a body mass index of 25-29.9 are considered overweight, and people with a BMI of 30 or above are classified as obese.

Other Risk factors

Age 45 or older

Developed diabetes while pregnant (gestational diabetes)

Have a parent, brother or sister with type 2 diabetes

Are not physically active

Belong to certain racial or ethnic groups. African Americans, Hispanic/Latino, American Indians, and some Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders are at high risk for type 2 diabetes.

Ways You Can Help Prevent Diabetes

Having a condition called prediabetes means you are at high risk of developing type 2 diabetes within 3 to 6 years. People with prediabetes have blood glucose (sugar) levels that are higher than normal, but not high enough to be diagnosed as diabetes. CDC estimates that 1 in 3 U.S. adults—79 million people—have prediabetes.

Research trials have shown that type 2 diabetes can be prevented or delayed in people at high risk for the disease who make lifestyle changes. Weight loss of 5 to 7 percent (about 10 to 14 pounds for a 200-pound person) and increasing physical activity to 150 minutes per week can reduce or delay the development of type 2 diabetes by nearly 60 percent. You can find written and electronic resources to help through the National Diabetes Education ProgramExternal Web Site Icon, sponsored by CDC and the National Institutes of Health, and community-based group classes through the CDC-led National Diabetes Prevention Program.

If you have diabetes, or know someone that has this disease, give me some comments on how it has affected you or anyone you know. Also, if you have any tips that you have found helpful, please share your experiences. I look forward to hearing from you.

Here is an awesome video that shows how one person took control of this disease in her life : Transform Your Life With Vi

One question I am frequently asked when I share my network marketing opportunity with friends, family members, and co-workers is “Is this a pyramid?” — Or the statement “This sounds like a pyramid.”

Case in point — six months ago, I shared my network marketing opportunity with one of my retired friends who were looking for additional income. After reviewing my DVD business presentation, my friend told me that my opportunity sounded like a pyramid, and he threatened to report it to appropriate authorities. I was shocked and appalled that my friend was so misinformed, but even more about this visceral negative reaction.

At that point I told him that it was definitely NOT a pyramid ….. and chalked up his negativity to the fact that maybe he had previously had a bad experience with a network marketing company. Furthermore, I knew he was operating out of ignorance and maybe just didn’t want to be bothered – even though he needed money.

Based on this reaction from my friend, I decided to do “due diligence” on the “pyramid” question to find the real answer to this question……so this blog post clarifies the differences between network marketing and a “pyramid.”

What is a Pyramid?

A pyramid is a scheme where normally, there’s no product involved at all, just money changing hands — or if there is a product, it’s clearly there just to support a money game.

Pyramids are strictly a money game and have no basis in real commerce. For example, pyramids are programs similar to chain letters where people just invest money based on the promise that other people will put in money that will filter back to each person that participate and somehow, they’ll get rich. In short, it is a get-rich-quick scheme. Just remember, if to looks too good to be true – it IS too good to be true.

There are many such programs in circulation today — so be careful when you are introduced to such a program — chances are it IS a Pyramid scheme!

What is Network Marketing?

Network marketing is a business model that is based on providing people with real, legitimate products they need and want at a fair price. In network marketing a person buys into the concept of the product(s) offered, sponsor other people and teach those people how to sell the company product and those people sponsor others who duplicate the process.

This concept is called “leverage”….. You can leverage your time and increase the number of hours of work effort on which you can be paid by sponsoring other people and earning income on their efforts, while at the same time they get paid for sponsoring and leveraging the efforts of others. This is a win-win for all involved.

J. Paul Getty, who created one of the world’s greatest fortunes, said “I would rather make 1 percent on the efforts of 100 people than 100 percent on my own efforts.” This very basic concept is the cornerstone of network marketing.

By helping the people you personally sponsor to sponsor others, you duplicate yourself. As this process continues, you create compound growth that can lead to hundreds or even thousands of people coming into your business.

Network marketing has proven itself as part of the new economy and is becoming a preferred way to do business here and around the world. It is highly endorsed by Robert Kiyosaki and Donald Trump, Bill Clinton, and others as the new business model of the future.

Network marketing isn’t about taking advantage of friends and relatives. The primary goal is to share excellent products, services, and opportunities with people you know — family, friends and loved ones to help them improve their lives and future.

Sharing the products or services and the opportunity with people you know is still the basic foundation of the business, although today we see more people using sophisticated marketing techniques such as the Internet, conference calling and other long-distance sponsoring techniques to extend their network across the country.

In Summary ………

Don’t let questions about whether your network marketing opportunity is a pyramid cause you concern about whether your network marketing opportunity is legitimate. Remember, if you have a solid product or service that customers might need or want your network marketing company is legitimate.

Please give me your comments and feedback on the “pyramid” question. How do YOU respond to it? I look forward to hearing about your experiences. If you found this information helpful, share it with your friends and colleagues on Facebook, Twitter and other media sources.

To Your Massive Success,

A couple of months ago, I joined a new network marketing team. This awesome team made me realize the tremendous power that teamwork can contribute toward the success of members of the team. I have been blown away in personally experiencing the love and support that a team can provide….and I feel pumped up and ready to help all members of the team succeed.

This team experience has made me realize that if all network marketing teams work together cooperatively, rather than individual people working in virtual isolation to achieve their goals, the 97% failure rate of network marketers can possibly be overturned. In my opinion, teamwork and unselfishness are the backbone of a great team …. without them the team cannot realistically compete.

Even if a group of superstars are working on the same team, but if they do not work well as one unit, chances are they are not going to be as successful as they could be if they pooled their resources and worked together. The team working as one cohesive unit would be the key in their success.

Teamwork is something that must be a high priority and given constant attention. Therefore, every team member needs to understand how important it is for them to work together cooperatively if they want to be successful. Each team member must be dedicated to the whole team and be willing to act unselfishly. When challenges arise (as they always do), the team needs to have the resources, accountability and commitment to deal with them in a constructive and positive manner.

My Advice to You

Before joining a network marketing team, consider whether:

1.      It has a good leader that fully support and encourage teamwork;

2.      The team members openly encourage and support one another;

3.      Team members have  open communication with one another;

4.      The leader use statements such as “we” when referring to the team, or is it more    of an “every man for himself” mentality;

5.      The individual contributions of each team member is recognized (regardless of whether a new team member or not);

6. The team is committed to improving performance; and

7. Each member considers themselves as a “team player.”

You might ask — how can I find this out about a team i know nothing about? Good question …… I realize that it is difficult for an “outsider looking in” to make these determinations … so I advise you to : Ask the leader about his or her philosophy on teams. Do research – often the results of good and productive teams work are known within the industry. Get feedback from others.

Taking these steps can greatly improve the likelihood of your finding a successful and supportive team that will help propel you to SUCCESS!

Remember T.E.A.M. – Together Everyone Achieves More!

As I grew up, I began to understand that my fear of sick and dead people stemmed from the fact that I lost my mother at the age of four, and that was a very traumatic experience for me. Even though my mother died suddenly, I began to fear people that were sick because I thought they would soon die.

At some point I began to realize that I had to face these fears …..so when my father was diagnosed with lung cancer, I spent as much time as possible with him and found that I had nothing to fear. When he passed on, someone in my family told me to touch my father and I would overcome my fear and voila… I overcame my fear of the dead.

Although I have had other fears I have been able to overcome them. When I started in network marketing a couple years ago, I discovered another fear which I am still trying to overcome …….fear of getting in front of a camera and making a video. I bought a Camtasia to make screen shots so I wouldn’t have to face the camera. I made many excuses for not making videos, but the bottom line is fear that it would not be perfect, wondering how I would look, what others might think or say….. and so on.

My not wanting to face the camera has lost me a ton of money, and I stand to lose even more since my current business involves making a lot of videos. I have finally decreed that “Enough is Enough.” I am going to break through this fear the same way I broke through my previous fears — FACE MY FEAR and JUST DO IT.

Fear can definitely be a Dream Killer, but I realize that in order to gain a wider perspective, grow, and be successful , I MUST step up and face my fear…. And if you are experiencing the same problem, you must do the same.

When two of my business colleagues– Octavia Latrice and Karen Monasingh decided to start a 21-day Video Challenge to overcome their fear of making videos, I decided to join the Challenge.

This is Day 1 of my challenge and my journey with making videos for the next 21 days has officially begun for me. I am confident that I CAN and WILL be successful on this challenge. I ask you to hold me to the Challenge and help Keep Me Accountable!

To encourage myself and the rest of the 21-day Video Challenge Group, as well as others who face the same challenge, here are some inspirational quotes on facing and overcoming fears.

“Fear – False Evidence Appearing Real.” - Unknown Author

“Inaction breeds doubt and fear. Action breeds confidence and courage. If you want to conquer fear, do not sit home and think about it. Go out and get busy.” – Dale Carnegie

“You gain strength, courage and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You are able to say to yourself, ‘I have lived through this horror. I can take the next thing that comes along.’ You must do the thing you think you cannot do.” – Eleanor Roosevelt

“I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.

Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.

I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me.

And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.

Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain “ – Frank Herbert

If you have had some of the same experiences, share your experiences with me. It would be comforting to learn that others have gone through the same struggles and overcame them.

A few weeks ago I wrote a blog post about my upcoming marathon (26.2 mile) walk in Honolulu. Let me be clear – participating in a marathon has NEVER been a goal of mine … I was “hoodwinked” into it to accompany a friend. My intuition told me that participating in a marathon would not be a “cakewalk”…it is a REAL CHALLENGE!

The training for the marathon was 19 weeks long, and needless to say, each week’s training became increasingly challenging. Many of my family members and friends kept asking why I decided take such a huge challenge – especially at the tender age of nearly 63. As the challenge of the training increased week-by-week, I began to question my own decision.

Each week’s training brought a new challenge. First, I had the wrong shoes – at the end of the eleven mile walk, the balls of my feet were blistered and sore for three days. Secondly, my feet still burned during my 14 mile walk after buying supposedly the right shoes. I had no blisters but it was painful. Thirdly, after the 18 mile walk, I was so sore the two days after the walk that I could barely walk up and down the stairs of my house.

At this point in the training, I began to question whether I was really up to the challenge. Why should I continue to put myself through such pain and misery each week? Maybe my family and friends were right – my body was too old to withstand such a beating. Nevertheless, I kept on going and each time I reached a new goal, the more inspired I became and the better I felt about finishing the race. I began to BELIEVE I could DO IT.

After a while, 8 and 10 mile walks felt very short and was a “breeze” to do. Our final long walk in the training was 22 miles. It took over five hours to finish but at the end I felt pretty good – a little sore, but not bad. The kicker was we had to complete a total of 38 miles that week and then turn around and walk 14 miles the following Monday. This is when I faced my biggest challenge – my hip became over-extended from the frequent walks and I had a GIGANTIC problem. Two weeks before the race, I was literally side-lined with a hip problem (never had this problem before)– could barely walk for nearly ten days!

What would I do? I HAD to finish the race after all the preparation and training…. My critics began to have a “Field Day,” saying such things as “Are you still going?” “You can’t possibly go now, you can’t even walk.” I calmly told them that while my body might not let me participate in the marathon, I had already walked 22 miles and even if I can’t walk in the marathon I am already a winner and will go to the Honolulu Marathon to celebrate with the rest of the winners…

I will be leaving for the marathon in a couple of days and my hip is still not up to par, but I am satisfied that whatever happens, I have already won.

My advice to you is–look at challenges as opportunities to grow and learn, to strengthen yourself, to test yourself and your faith. Challenges reveal how badly we want to create the dreams in our hearts, and how hard we’re willing to work for them. This is such a blessing.

The biggest challenge is choosing the right attitude. Will you get flustered and angry, or will you get excited and determined? Will you lie down and cry, or will you push through your challenges? Once we change our attitude about obstacles and challenges, they can actually become fun. Our competitive human nature rises up and gets ready to win, no matter what.

The final chapter of my marathon story will be revealed in my next blog post … stay tuned to hear the outcome!

Please leave me a comment and share your thoughts about my marathon plight, and share this with your friends on Facebook and Twitter, if you enjoyed this post. I promise I will connect with you again very soon.

When projects or tasks are difficult, overwhelming, complex, or something you dislike, do you often find yourself putting off these tasks or deferring taking action until later? Do you know what you want, and even know how to get it, but feel stuck in an immobilized state and ‘unable’ to act on it? If your answer to these questions is “yes,” you are probably a member of the largest “Nation,” – ProcrastiNATION.

Many network marketers get stuck or never get started when they are introduced to doing things that are out of their comfort zone. One author defined procrastination as “putting off doing something out of habitual carelessness or laziness, or postponing or delaying something needlessly.” I believe most network marketers are serious about starting a business and do not procrastinate out of “carelessness or laziness,” but many postpone or delay projects and tasks needlessly causing them to be literally stuck between advancing and failing so let’s explore the three major causes of procrastination:

Fear: One of the biggest causes of procrastination is fear. Fear is often caused when a person feels unprepared or not up to the task; or feels he/she doesn’t have enough knowledge or insufficient information to get started. This causes the person to delay getting started, engage in detailed preparatory tactics, or use avoidance tactics before beginning a task or project. Fear can be a killer particularly for new entrepreneurs. Don’t let fear cause you to become a member of the “nation” of Procrastination. Find ways to break through your fears and get things done as quickly as possible.

Believing the outcome must be perfect. Being worried about producing a perfect outcome often causes a person to not start the task until he/she has exhausted all research, found every answer, or set something up perfectly. This is often referred to as “analysis paralysis.” Don’t worry about having everything perfect and in place before getting started. If you wait until everything is perfect to begin implementing, you will never get started, or you will leave a lot of money “on the table” before getting started.

Information Overload. Entrepreneurs, especially new ones, are continuously and insistently bombarded with many numerous offers and sales pitches via email, webinars and other forums — many of which sound too good to resist. If the person is not savvy enough to decipher products or services needed, versus ones not needed, complete overwhelm and information overload can quickly cause a lack of focus, distraction and confusion. So many elements can distract you that it can be quite challenging to try and juggle multiple tasks, even if you work full-time on the business. Be aware, trying to do too many things at the same time can lead to frustration and failure.

You can avoid the traps that cause procrastination:

RECOGNIZE when you’re procrastinating and PUSH to complete the task.

Commit to working on unpleasant or difficult tasks for a short period of time each day.

Instead of placing a project on your “to-do list, schedule an appointment to complete the project and keep your appointment.

Delegate or outsource tasks that hang you up or cause delays.

Make public commitments. It’s a lot harder to wiggle out of something when you’ve told someone you would do it.

Don’t try to be perfect – take Action to implement what you learn immediately! Remember perfection is not required – ACTION IS.

Commit to focus on one or two areas at a time and then expand to another area to avoid overload.

Don’t let procrastination cause you to become a member of the largest “nation” on earth as you build your home or internet business. This is a “nation” you must try to avoid at all costs. Stay on top of the game and push through the tendency to delay or postpone getting things done.

Preparing for the long haul.

I don’t know if I have lost my mind, or whether I temporarily had a weak moment when I recently agreed to join one of my friends as a participant in the 2010 Honolulu Marathon in December. When I mentioned the idea to family members and friends, they all asked “Have you lost your mind? Why do you want to put yourself through this?” Their questions were valid — why in the world would I agree to put myself through the “agony” of walking 26.3 miles in a marathon. It was CRAZY!!

Then I remembered that I had previously turned down my friend’s offer at least three times before finally agreeing to support her in the marathon by walking six miles, rather than the 26.3 miles required to finish the marathon. To this, my friend asked “Why would you travel all the way to Hawaii to walk six miles when you already walk six miles several times a week? …. another good question. The more I thought about the idea of participating in the marathon and began to research the possibility, I found that several valuable lessons could be applied to my internet marketing business by participating in a marathon.

In my study about marathons, I found that an overwhelming number of people who participate in marathons do so because of an unequaled positive boost in attitude, stress release, and increase in vitality, focus and creativity. With the average age of marathoners being 40+, the marathon stands out as one of the most esteemed of life’s achievements which can only be won by pulling from deep within – physical, mental and spiritual resources over a period of time. It can be one of the most fulfilling experiences in one’s life with proper training. With this said, I believe I was “bitten” by the over-40 bug when I agreed to take on such a challenging assignment. I saw the marathon as a way to break through any barriers I perceive about the marathon, as well as other areas of my life.

Participating in a marathon provides five lessons that are beneficial in helping network and internet marketers meet their goals:

Be Committed: Both marathoners and network/ internet marketers must be committed to doing “whatever it takes “ to be successful or cross the finish line. For example, a marathoner must commit to complete a rigorous 20-week training program prior to the marathon; attend team practices/activities, monitor weekly progress, communicate regularly with coaches, and follow marathon training and preparation guidelines. A network or internet marketer must also be committed to follow the recommendations of mentors and leaders, take massive action, attend training and events, and be willing to change unproductive habits.

Be Persistent: This is a key component for both marathoners and network/internet marketers. Marathons are primarily endurance events that require participants to dig deep to find the strength and stamina to complete the training program and finish the race. Network and internet marketers must be persistent in overcoming the many setbacks, disappointments, and failures that are inherent in starting a business, and not give up.

Be Coachable: Both marathoners and network/internet marketers need to follow the advise of a coach or mentor who has successfully achieved the goal they want to reach. Persons who have already been through the experience are in the best position to help guide an inexperienced individual to success. There are many guidelines a marathoner must follow physically, nutritionally, and during training preparation that require the advice and guidance of a coach. Being aware of and following the guidelines can drive whether or not the marathoner cross the finish line. Likewise, in network/internet marketing, a good coach is invaluable in providing good advice to individuals and helping to guide them to success.

Start Slowly: Both marathoners and network/internet marketers should start slowly and then pick up the pace rather than rushing out of the gate at the beginning. This is important for marathon participants because starting out at a fast pace will quickly exhaust their energy and they will “hit the wall” and quit before reaching the finish line. Network/internet marketers (particularly newbies) that start out too quickly often experience information overload which cause them to quickly become confused and overwhelmed and end up quitting, as well. To avoid this, network/internet marketers should focus on mastering one (or two) things at a time and become proficient them before taking on additional responsibilities. This helps them to slowly and consistently add additional responsibilities without becoming overloaded and confused.

Attend Events: Events are very important for both marathoners and network/internet marketers. For marathoners, events such as half marathons and other running events can help prepare the participant for the race by giving them an idea of what to expect, as well as provide a forum for them to meet others with the same interest, thus boosting the morale and confidence of the participant. For network and internet marketers, the same is true. Events and meetings inspire and build confidence through the strength of others. These events provide a forum for individuals to meet top earners and get important information that can help to move their businesses to the next level.

I am currently in Week # 7 of a nineteen week training program and up to sixteen miles on my bi-weekly long walking day. We alternate between a long walking day (started at eight and add 2 miles bi-weekly) and short day (eight miles). My most challenging walk so far was the sixteen mile walk –- had a couple of long hills to negotiate, and I discovered that my tennis shoes are not appropriate for long walks because the balls of my feet were so sore I could barely walk when I returned home. Yet, these challenges have not caused me to want to give up. I am determined to fix the problems and finish the race.

I will share my experiences periodically and I continue to press toward Marathon Day! I am extremely excited to be able to participate in this race. I invite you to share this experience with me as I continue my training during the next few weeks.

I hope you enjoyed and found some value in reading this blog post.
